Producer Chris Garges has played drums alongside Mitch Easter for many years. Imagine our delight when Garges brought in “While The World Careens,” an unreleased Easter song. The demo, which has Easter singing and playing all parts, served as the blueprint for the song’s public debut on "Be Good To Yourself." Bill Lloyd (of hip country duo Foster & Lloyd and solo power-pop fame) nails the vocal, and the goosebumps guitar solo, courtesy of Rob Slater, former guitarist with Sneakers, pays stout homage to Easter’s inventive guitar playing. A DeFacto favorite.

Lyrics

Halfway there, or maybe I'm mostways gone
It's neither here nor there because when I'm on I'm on
On an un-negotiable turning point
Please turn it on
It's the merrily humming happy machine
Don't need to think, just feeling serene
Nothing to say it's so quiet upstairs
Wind blows through, don't notice, don't care
While the world careens ah oh

If one day's bad, another day is way too long
All of those hours, man, with just your thoughts and awful songs
And what you're looking for is sweet oblivion
Well don't we all
Want the merrily humming happy machine
Can't really think, just feeling serene
There's nothing to say, it's so quiet upstairs
Wind blows through, don't notice, don't care
While the world careens ah oh

What you're looking for is sweet oblivion
Well don't you all
Want the merrily humming happy machine
Can't really think, just feeling serene
Got nothing to say, so quiet upstairs
The wind blows through, don't notice, don't care
While the world careens ah oh ahah oh ahah oh
