Marlene Ballena

Marlene Ballena, a native of Peru, began playing cello at age 7 and served as a member of the Peruvian National Symphony. She has studied at the University of Louisville and the Cleveland Institute of Music and has accepted prestigious residencies at Kent State University and Carnegie Melon University. She has been a member of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra since 2014.

jane hart brendle

Jane Hart Brendle is a member of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra where she has been in the first-violin section since 1995. She is also the violinist and arranger for Carolina Strings, a chamber group that performs in the Charlotte area. She holds a Master of Music degree in applied violin performance from UNC-Greensboro.
She also plays classical mandolin. She lives in Charlotte, N.C. She is married to jazz bassist Ron Brendle.

ron brendle

Ron Brendle is a virtuoso bassist, composer, and string arranger who has become the first-call bassist for projects and studio work in the Charlotte area. He has a deep discography and has worked with Mose Allison, Bunky Moon, Charlie Byrd, Clark Terry, and Bob Margolin, among others. Brendle did the string arrangement for “Late” on Be Good To Yourself.

Ed Bumgardner is a veteran bassist from Winston-Salem, N.C. He spent 25 years as music writer for the Winston-Salem Journal,
winning national and state awards for critical excellence.
