One of the pleasures of this project was discovering amazing talent unknown to most of us. Nowhere was that more in evidence than on this song by singer-songwriter Sunshone Still. This vivid tale of broken-hearted, drunken self-destruction unfolds like a short story. Singer Justin Faircloth (The Houston Brothers) perfectly executes shifting emotions as dynamics move from hushed acoustic verses to mushroom-cloud explosions of guitars. Deft use of cello, synthesizer and harmonium further heightens what is a potent and magical listening experience.

Lyrics

I’m so tired of making mistakes
Of course I’m too poor
To drink away this heartache
One night I was lucky to get liquored up
Fell off a barstool
Didn’t know which end was up

Was listening to the banjo
And the Gipsy Kings
My head split wide open
My heart still hurting
The only thing I could do
Was self destruct
Wallow in my teardrops
And shed a little blood

And from my barstool
My love for you was made new
And from my barstool
I fell again for you

I’m so tired of singing sad songs
And being far away
From where it is I belong
One day, maybe I’ll hit the interstate
Put it in fifth gear
And head on back to the Tarheel state

Put away the bourbon
And the hard times
Start with that first kiss
And give it another try

And listen to your heart play
A banjo tune
Not the one that brought me down
But the one that took me back me to you

From my barstool
My love for you is made new
From my barstool
I fell again for you

From my barstool
I fell again for you
From my barstool
I fell again for you
I fell again for you
I fell again for you
I fell again for you
